In May 2023, my family traveled to the Nordic Countries of Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland! I was humbled by the beauty of each country and the thoughtful Nordic people. This 10-day Nordic travel experience of enjoying the outdoors was amazing, beautiful, and empowering. I am feeling gratitude for a truly wonderful trip!

Iceland 2024 Trip

Finland
Our first destination was Helsinki, Finland. We stayed at the fabulous Hotel St. George luxury hotel. It is located in a historic building next to Old Church Park and is a few minutes walk from the main city centre.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Lapland restaurant Saaga Bulevardi in Helsinki, Finland. They offer delicious dishes of Lapland and Finnish cuisine in a rustic, warm, beautiful dining atmosphere.
The next day, we started with a unique Sauna Restaurant experience on the coast of the Baltic Sea at Löyly in Helsinki, Finland. The traditional wood-burning sauna was wonderful and relaxing. As for the food, I enjoyed the best salmon soup I have ever tasted!
Our next reservation was at the Nature Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän in Rantasalmi, Finland. It is located in Eastern Finland, by Lake Saimaa and next to the Linnansaari National Park. This resort was such a unique experience with their many saunas, nature trail walks in the beautiful woods, and outdoor dining.
We also stayed at the Tykkimäki Resort in Kouvola, Finland. The scenery was breathtaking.
One last highlight of Finland, that I will always cherish — We were able to visit with my Dad’s Finnish family (he was 100% Finnish), whom I have never met before. A truly heartfelt experience.
Sweden
On to Stockholm, Sweden — Our ride from the airport shared with us a bit Stockholm’s history and significant landmarks. What a fabulous introduction to our next country’s travels!
We stayed at the Grand Hotel and had a relaxing spa experience. We walked the cobblestone streets of Stockholm admiring its beautiful architecture on our way to our destination for dinner. It was wonderful to see the Nobel Prize Museum building where the Noble Peace Prizes are awarded!
At Aifur, a Scandinavian restaurant in Stockholm, the restaurant host introduced me to the diners announcing a birthday celebration… blowing the horn, a true Nordic experience, plus delicious food!
Norway
Then, on to Norway! We had a wonderful stay in Flam, Norway. The scenery and fjords were simply breathtaking.
A highlight of our Norway adventure was kayaking the Narrow Fjords with the Nordic Adventure’s Kayaking Experience. Naerofjorden translates to “Narrow Fjords” in English.
Another highlight of Norway was taking a boat ride in Geiranger to see “The Seven Sisters” Waterfall! The Seven Sisters Waterfall is one of the most iconic sights in the region. It consists of seven separate streams, which cascade down the mountainside into the Geirangerfjord.
Iceland
Lastly… Hello, Iceland — the land of fire and ice!
We spent time viewing waterfalls, visiting horse and sheep farms, and admiring geothermal pools. We stayed at a beautiful, isolated setting at an Airbnb where the outdoor hot tub was heated with a wood burning stove. We journeyed a Volcanic area and hiked in the Katla Ice Cave (Under the Volcano) Tour with a wonderful guide, Sigurour Gretar Vioarsson of Troll Expeditions. It was an unforgettable, safe journey!
