In June 2022, Company of Women Travel offered much adventure and relaxation in the North Shore of Minnesota! Mother nature gave us a show on our 2-night, 3-day getaway trip as we experienced the great outdoors. We enjoyed many unexpected experiences such as a beautiful, clear day at Palisade Head.
We made a few unscheduled stops as the spirit moved us! Betsy, Jan and I took a short hike at Jay Cook State Park. On the swinging bridge, we enjoyed the sights and sounds of rushing water below. The water was flowing swiftly and beautiful.
One of our participants from Arizona requested a true up north experience, and she got it!

We made a quick stop at Gooseberry Falls State Park. Gooseberry Falls was a sight we did not want to miss. The beautiful views of the falls and glistening water added to our trip.
Gooseberry Falls – Gooseberry Falls State Park, Two Harbors, Minnesota
Our small group ventured on a short hike in Two Harbors, Minnesota. We enjoyed Lake Superior up close as we walked the breakwall to see the sights and lighthouse! Being outdoors on Lake Superior is the best way to spend time in Two Harbors.
Our “basecamp” was a three bedroom townhome at Surfside on Lake Superior Resort, one of Bluefin Bay’s Family of Resorts. This luxurious and fully furnished 3,000 sq. ft. waterfront townhome offered the ultimate Lake Superior experience. The townhome had three levels with spectacular views of Lake Superior from our living spaces, as well as from the many decks and patios throughout the three levels.
We were surrounded by beautiful views of Lake Superior from our resort’s grounds.
We sailed on the Hjørdis Sailboat in the brisk, foggy waters of the Grand Marais Harbor and enjoyed the many stories that were shared on our excursion by the captain and crew. It was a chilly day, and as we left the harbor the fog rolled in. It was a sail to remember!
One of our participants was a repeat traveler, and we were honored to have her join Company of Women Travel on another adventurous trip!

Beautiful sights were not the only things enjoyed on our weekend getaway. In between our activities and hikes, we sampled many of the local restaurants and cafés, trying many dishes and treats that were fresh, seasonal, and delicious.
Our last day started with a walk through the Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center, followed by a hike at Caribou Falls.
Sugarloaf Cove was a great place to learn as we hiked. It is managed by the North Shore Stewardship Association and is dedicated to restoring and preserving the North Shore’s forest and ecosystems.
Caribou Falls is a hidden gem located along the Superior Hiking trail on Minnesota’s North Shore. We enjoyed mother nature on this short, scenic hike along the Caribou River that lead to a beautiful 35-foot waterfall at the base of the Caribou River.
Another unscheduled stop we made on our getaway trip was Temperance Falls, Minnesota. We took in the views at the mouth of the Temperance River and its waterfall.

Mother nature gave us a great sendoff back to the Twin Cities! On our return to Minneapolis, we stopped at Palisade Head Overlook. It was a wonderful treat as the scenic views of Lake Superior were crystal clear that day! As the song’s lyrics say, “On a clear day, you can see forever.”
