In August 2022, Company of Women Travel had another fun and relaxing 3-day adventure to the North Shore of Minnesota! We explored what the North Shore has to offer in the summer time with an amazing small group of women.
Our trip started out by getting acquainted at The New Scenic Café. We enjoyed lunch together, discussed the trip overview for the next 3 days, and exchanged stories of our outdoor experiences.
After lunch, we explored Stoney Point in Two Harbors Township, MN. The rolling waves of the Lake Superior Shoreline were a beautiful sight in the sunshine as we walked the cobblestone beach and ledgerock.
“Mary is a wonderful trip host and hiking guide who knows how to explore the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior!”
We then took advantage of more scenic views Two Harbors has to offer and walked the break wall to enjoy the sights of Lake Superior! Two Harbors, MN is situated around two bays on Minnesota’s North Shore – Agate Bay, and Burlington Bay.
After Day 1’s adventures, we checked into our waterfront Townhome at Surfside on Lake Superior Resort, one of Bluefin Bay’s Family of Resorts. This luxurious and fully furnished 3,000 sq. ft. waterfront townhome offered the ultimate Lake Superior experience. The townhome had three levels with spectacular views of Lake Superior from our living spaces, as well as from the many decks and patios throughout the three levels.
We had a small social hour at our Townhome, and then ended our first day of the trip with dinner at Bluefin Bay Grille. Fresh, local dishes were enjoyed accompanied with a breathtaking sunset view of Lake Superior.
After breakfast, the second day of our trip started with a hike at Cascade River State Park. Views of waterfalls within a gentle half-mile hike on a forested trail was the perfect way to start our day’s adventures. This State Park is named after the series of waterfalls the Cascade River takes on its way into Lake Superior. In the photo below, you can see the waterfalls cascading into each other.
“Mary, thank you for such a wonderful trip to the North Shore! I really enjoyed myself and the company of you and Debra. I also greatly appreciated how you didn’t hesitate to provide me with some extra care due to my injury prior to the trip.”
After lunch at the Angry Trout Café, we boarded the Hjørdis Sailboat in the Grand Marais Harbor for a fun sailboat ride! Debra, Sally and I laughed out loud while boarding, as the crew referred to Sally with her arm in a sling as a “one winger”. We understood the crew communicated to each other as they assessed the passengers for our safety. Our sailing excursion was a beautiful ride gliding through the shimmering waters of Lake Superior.
Backstory: Prior to our trip, Sally was walking her energetic labardoodles, became tangled up in their leashes, and unfortunately fell and broke her shoulder. Being the trooper that Sally is, it did not stop her from joining Company of Women Travel on the Minnesota North Shore Signature Trip.

Our sail was followed with a walk through town in Grand Marais. We then walked the break wall at Artist’s Point at Grand Marais Harbor to take in the views of Lake Superior. You can see the Sawtooth Mountains rising in the background!
Our last and final day of the 3-day Minnesota North Shore Signature Trip was a beautiful and sunny. Here was our view of Lake Superior from our Surfside Resort Townhome.
We enjoyed breakfast and then started out on a hike at Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center. Sugarloaf Cove is managed by the North Shore Stewardship Association. A great place to learn as you hike, it is dedicated to restoring and preserving the North Shore’s forest and ecosystems.
After our hike at Sugarloaf Cove, we checked out of our townhome at Surfside Resort and headed out for one last hike at Caribou Falls. The trail is along the Caribou River and leads to a beautiful 35-foot waterfall at the base of the river.
